Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the reaction of the international community to the proclamation of Kosovo as an independent state, in an attempt to demonstrate the relevance of the realist theories in the contemporary international relations. The intention is to prove that the realist theory of international relations, in its “neo” version, can explain the international situation created by the independence of Kosovo in a non-contradictory way.
