Summary/Abstract: The changes in the contemporary world economy caused to a large degree by the revolutionary inventions in the area of communication, made the creation of virtual enterprises possible. The special form of them are born global, that is the firms which start their international activity direct after their formation. It seems that a form of virtual organization is particularly useful for SMEs due to their specific characteristics such as uncomplicated structure of organization, direct management, simple canals of communication, great speed in taking up the decisions due to lack of bureaucratic procedures, efficient activity and flexibility in reaction to the changes in environment. Virtual combination of core competences of SME may also help to overcome the shortage of material and immaterial resources of a single firm and decide of possibility of realization of a given undertaking. As a consequence SMEs can use their potential in effective way, come onto the earlier inaccessible niches of the market, strengthen their position in relation to customers, better satisfy their demands and generally strengthen their competitiveness. An essential condition of virtual activity of a firm is to be experienced in the use of electronic data processing and electronic media. SMEs should also have right knowledge concerning international business and knowledge of foreign languages, at least English language. Reliability and mutual confidence of the companies are very important for this kind of business activity. These features are not often met among SMEs from the emerging markets (including Poland) which aside from other reasons makes that they undertake virtual activity very rarely.
