Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to reveal the complicated relationship between literature and historiography in Hayden White’s theoretical works, starting from the assumption that White’s "tropology" can be traced back to Giambattista Vico’s poetic logic of history. The author argues that this “in-betweeness,” shifting from the conventions of historiography to interdisciplinary approaches, provides an alternative conceptual framework for the field of cultural studies.
