Summary/Abstract: The notion of time is a social construction and though it has been studied for a relatively long time, too little attention has been paid to the differences and discrepancies between the reality and the social concept of the time from the position of each sex – the so-called sexuation. . The raising of the problem of existence of relation between the sex and the amount of time at work (at the work place and in the household) is only a start for better understanding of its relations with work, employment, activity, changes in the repartition of the work, and many other important aspects of this problem. The concept of the incomplete working time as a “social request” of the women to the government in the purpose to reduce their burden in their multi-role performance is discussed in the article, as well as its evolution in France during the last 25 years. The theoretical model used in the research on women opinion and behaviour concerning the working time in two surveys (in the beginning of the 1980s and in 1996-98) and the main research results are presented.
