Summary/Abstract: The role and function of strategic management is to establish the analyses, decisions and actions that an organization must undertake în order to gain competitive advantages, represented by those competences that allow it to outperform the competitors. This is the reason why managers must concentrate their efforts to identify the best strategic options and to implement them, accordingly with the individual characteristics of their organizations. Although this plan sounds very simple, one must be aware that establishing the best strategies that fit the organization is a very complex process, and the construction industry makes no exception. First of all the managers must undertake a detailed analysis both of the external and the internal factors that comprise the environment în which the organization performs its activities. This is very important because these analyses help the managers identify early on the possible threats that could affect the process of reaching the established goals, allowing them to take the necessary correction steps în order to ensure the success of the strategy.
