Summary/Abstract: The article studies the process of institution-alization and functioning of business representation in Bulgaria, the basic idea of the author being that business associations, though still in a process of formation, are an important and reliable element of civil society in the country. In terms of both promoting democracy and promptinmg the government towards creating a more favourable business climate. On the basis of the results from a newly accomplished research project, the article focuses on two basic issues: on the definition and analysis of the most important parametres of the business associations in the country - in terms of aims, structure, difficulties, activities, resp. behaviour, etc, and on the way business associations interact wiili the state institutions, resp. on the way they influence the process of political and legislative decision making.
