Summary/Abstract: Trade unions are weak in most countries across Europe, but Edward Zammit and Saviour Rizzo consider trade unions in Malta where the union movement is both strong and, as a result not least of the policies of governments of both political colours, growing both in absolute terms and in terms of membership density. Their contribution is an examination of recent poll evidence into attitudes of a representative sample of union members, and it provides much evidence as to what trade unions in Malta need to do to retain their relevance, from their position of strength, given the economic shockwave that, the authors say, is now beginning also to wash Maltese shores.
