Index Factor Analysis of the Overall Fertility of Women in Bulgaria for the Period 1985-1997

Summary/Abstract: The article views the problem of factor influence of fertility in different age groups, of the number of women in fertile age, and of their age structure, on the overall fertility in Bulgaria. The research has been carried out for the country as а whole, and individually for the towns and villages. The schemes of the multiplication and the additive index factor analyses have been applied in the course of the study. The period under observation covers the years 1985-1997. It has been divided into two sub-periods. The main purpose has been to determine the effect of the aggravated socio-economic conditions in the country after 1989 on women's fertility; hence, on the reproductive process of the country's population.
