Summary/Abstract: he article, based on previously unknown archival documents, investigates little-studied problem: “purge” in Soviet institutions in the early 1920s. Special attention is given to the principles and criteria by which employees were selected in the process of “purge”. It concludes that employees are determined to dismissal primarily by social origin, followed by political unreliability, then — professional impropriety. Class principle of selection is not always acted.
