Summary/Abstract: After some introductory remarks on the philosophical grounds of Camillo’s memory theatre, this essay will offer a close reading of L’idea del theatro, one that seems to unlock, by way of scrutinizing the dialogue between the aforementioned text by Giulio Camillo Delminio and Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, one of the possible doors that lead to the unravelling of the theatre’s mnemonic enigma. The presence, in Camillo’s work, of textual and intertextual signals that can be read as bringing about the visualization of Christ’s cross as a cryptic image, corroborates the thesis according to which the anamnesis of the divine, a desired end of the mnemonic process, is to be interpreted as potentially activating the deification of the reader and/or observer of Camillo’s theatre.
