Summary/Abstract: The annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Bosnian crisis are only one but important fragment of the unhappy history of Bosnia and Herzegovina which today is undergoing its most tragic period. The Serbian aggression upon this area prompts us to a renewed study of some of the key conflicts over Bosnia and Herzegovina and in particular of the Austro-Hungarian annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina which in the beginning of the twentieth century threatened Europe with turning into an open war. The Friedjung trial which accompanied this crisis reveals all the working methods of the Austro-Hungarian political leadership. The Austro-Hungarian annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not result in the political stability that the Monarchy so fervently desired and it stopped the aspirations of Serbia towards the same region only for a very short time.
