Summary/Abstract: This study researches the trade in Bosnia and Herzegovina, its development and transition from the classical and fragmented into the integral and global trade that will gradually undertake more and more marketing functions and become an active corrector of production in accordance with the demands and needs of final consumers. The comparative analyses of the trade in BiH has shown a certain structural approach of the trade in Bosnia and Herzegovina to the trade structure in the European Union. The sector structure of the distributive trade in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2003 approached to the sector structure of the European Union with reference to the participation of the employed and the structure of the turnover within each activity. However, as to the issue of the sector structure of the number of companies, the trade in BiH has shown a drastic discrepancy in relation to the European Union. A relative structure of the trade turnover in Bosnia and Herzegovina came closer to the trade structure in the European Union. However, the absolute magnitudes of the turnover have shown a drastic lagging of the BiH trade behind the trade in the European Union. To ensure a successful continuation of the transition of trade in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is essential to continue with the political-legal transformation that will result in a better regulation of the market. It is necessary to regulate at the level of Bosnia and Herzegovina a unified trade policy, establish a unified legal framework and to establish unified state authorities competent for the integral control of commodities and monetary flows. The trade in Bosnia and Herzegovina should continue with the further transition through: the restructuring of management, development of marketing conception, transition from the classical to the development of contemporary trade, globalization and internalization of trade, the increase of the electronic trade participation as well as the introduction of the international standards in the trade of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
