Summary/Abstract: The most important types of processes gossip undergoes are expansion (already mentioned), excitation (proportional and amplifying mechanisms operating when gossip is transmitted or listened to) and fermentation (distortion which alters the inner connections of the gossip). These three processes produce simultaneous spatial and temporal transformations, whose basic unit is the replication of the gossip. The umbrella term for the processes of transformation is mutation.
