Summary/Abstract: The Lemko Rusyns represent the most Western branch of East Slavic ethnic and linguistic community. Among other Carpathian Rusyns, Lemkos were the most persistent in preserving their traditional All- Russian identity. In 1918 in a Western part of Lemkovina established self-governing Lemko territorial and administration unit with its own executive and legislative powers. This administrative unit laid a foundation for Lemko Rusyn People's Republic. Both pro-Russian and then pro-Czechoslovak orientation of Lemko Rusyns proved to be totally unrealistic. In March 1920 Poland regained control over Lemkovina and arrested Lemko political leaders. Land of Lemko Rusyns became part of interwar Polish state, which was the least desired option for Lemko Russophile politicians.
