Summary/Abstract: Single market is one of the three main objectives of the Treaty of Rome, along with achieving a common agricultural policy and a customs union. For this purpose Member States had to promote free movement of persons, capital goods and services, to abolish monopoles and state aid to national industries in order to avoid economic distortions.
