Summary/Abstract: The author of the article considers how mechanisms of literary grotesque function in Sławomir Mrożek’s short stories. The main aim of the text is to show connection between grotesque motives and existential questions putting by polish writer on the examples of two short stories. At the mill, at the mill, my good Sir and A man who falls down. Author endeavors to supply arguments confirming the thesis of evolution of grotesque in Mrożek’s work. Taking into consideration two short stories, he demonstrates different uses of grotesque. Starting from parodique and satirical purpose Mrożek use grotesque as a way to expose and ridicule stereotypes and everyday life absurd. Author focuses on the later works of Mrożek, where he exerted grotesque to describe inner, existential problems of individual.
