Summary/Abstract: During 1924 the world-famous social democrat Emil Vanderveld visited the Balkans on a special mission. He was sent by the Executive Buro (EB) of the Socialist International (SI) to visit Bulgaria and present his observations, conclusions and evaluations of the situation in the country. The greatest part of his impressions and analyses Vanderveld recorded as travel notes that were later published in the collection The Balkans and Peace. His travel led to by important and interesting contacts, meetings and talks which he recorded between 29th Aug. and 22nd Spt.1924. These very notes are the object of the present research. All his notes and letters written during his travel were a basis for contemplation and re-evaluation of the events on the Balkans in the post-war period. Recorded in the beginning of the 20th c, they sound as an up-to-date message and remind us of the many questionable issues related to the above–mentioned historical period.
