Summary/Abstract: The author analyses the socialist crime serial entitled Kántor within sociocultural parameters. The language and style of police news and the crime’s fictive world were the same. The authorities’ purpose was maintaining the surface of moral order, and covering up the inability of the police as authority (for instance the unsolved murders). When the media, which should broadcast the truth, couldn’t work properly, the fictional Kántor series provided symbolical satisfaction.
