Summary/Abstract: Based on an original, "etymological" definition of the term "political theatre" as "the location for watching exhibiting politics in society", the present article explores the potentials of the theatre paradigm for innovative interpretation from the standpoint of political and sociological sciences. The author's main concept is that the "public" aspect of politics implies within itself a substantial "theatrical" character of political life. Dwelling on the idea, two new terms have been introduced: "theatre in politics" and "theatre of politics". The article analyses the preconditions for constituting the public political space, as well as the "roles" and interactions of the political "actors" and "audience" in it. The article pursues to define a "middle level" descriptive theoretical model which is being regarded in the context of the theory of communication in politics and could find further application in the specific politological analysis, aimed at revealing the nature of political participation, political leadership, the role of mass media in the political process, the issue of discreet influence of power, etc.
