Regional context of Turkey-Iran relations post Cold War

Summary/Abstract: Over the two decades following the end of the Cold War, the relations between the Republic of Turkey and the Islamic Republic of Iran have deepened, and their global, regional and internal contexts changed. Just as in the time of the Ottoman and Persian empires, the contemporary relations between the two countries are marked by deep respect, combined with more or less open rivalry for influence in the neighbouring area, fraught with mutual suspicion.
