Summary/Abstract: The author considers that one cannot speak about a stereotype of a Pole among Japanese, because they have nowhere to look for the information about Poland. She therefore presents general impressions that Japanese have about Poles on the basis of the surveys which were carried out among the Japanese students of Polish philology (some of them have previously been to Poland and had contact with Poles). The surveys enabled also recreating the self-stereotype of a Japanese whose faults and virtues were given to contrast the features of Poles.
