Summary/Abstract: Janos Hay interview made by Tibor Keresztury, editor of the literary journal, Alfold (Debrecen), expert in contemporary Hungarian poetry, author of a monography on Gyorgy Petri. This is also a written version of a life conversation from the Young Writers Summer School with the poet, writer and editor of contemporary Hungarian literature, Janos Hay a prominent personality in his generation (born in the 60- ies), author of ten books (poetry, short prose, novels). He speaks about his life and work, how it was to be a young writer before 1989 and how is it today, how his generation can be characterized, coming after the "big generation" of Nadas, Esterhazy, resp. Tandori, Petri. He is also reflecting on the problem of the "coming back of the historical novel" in contemporary Hungarian literature (L.Marton, L.Darvasi, Zs.Lang and himself), and on the relavance or irrelevance of literary theory for creative writing.
