Summary/Abstract: The author reconstructs the image of a stereotypical Pole well-functioning in Dutch countries (Belgium and Holland). He choses a diachronic perspective which enables him to show essential changes of such image and their main socio-political causes. The author analyzes both literary texts and material of language system. The stereotype of a Pole existing in the Netherlands today and referring to Polish immigrants living there, is of a negative nature. Poles are associated with well-qualified builders, cleaners, or with the criminal world (gangsters, bandits, thieves).
