Summary/Abstract: The Gagaouzes are Orthodox Turkicphones living in contemporary Moldova. All the Gagaouzes there came from the Bulgarian land. By the first half of the 20th century the generic and historical memory determines them as Bulgarian. In 1934 the priest Mihail Chakir publishes the book “Gagaouzes’ history in Bessarabia”. The book is not of a scientific value but it has a great emotional intensity. According to this book the Gagaouzes are an ancient Turkic people having their own state in the 14th century. The text of the book aims at Gagaouz group’s separation from the Bulgarian community in Moldova and their independent nationality.
