Summary/Abstract: In the context of wider interest in Franciscans as particular ‘sites of memory’ (Pierre Nora) in Bosnian-Herzegovinian literature, this paper deals with how Ivan Frano Jukić, his biography and work, is remembered in contemporary Bosnian- Herzegovinian and Croatian literary works, which, although not particularly numerous, vary in terms of their genre. Namely, the paper discusses three literary pieces by three different authors: Lovrenović’s novel Putovanje Ivana Frane Jukića (The Journey of Ivan Frano Jukić), Stojić’s poem Na Jukićevu grobu u groblju St. Marx u Beču (On Jukić’s Grave in St. Marx Cemetery in Vienna) and Frndić’s drama Krvava sablja Omer-paše Latasa ili Bosna između Istoka i Zapada (Bloody Sword of Omer Pasha Latas or Bosnia between East and West). The paper attempts to draw conclusions about the modes in which Jukić is remembered and how they influence the construction of the Franciscan from the first half of the 19th century as a ‘symbolic and cultural capital’ (Pierre Bourdieu) of both Bosnian-Herzegovinian and Croatian traditions.
