Summary/Abstract: The author tries to find out, based upon the 17th and 18th century documentary testimonies, whether the mahalale in the cities of Moldavia represented a simple linguistic borrowing or a habitation possibility, where population of Balkan origin could identify elements that were similar to those of their original areas. Even if the research of the topic has just started, we could already see some urban resemblances between the slum of the Moldavian cities and that of the Ottoman cities.
