The National House on the Eve of the National Revival Period

Summary/Abstract: The author studies the national Bulgarian house in the period of the 15th—17th century, which he defines as the 'Eve of the National Revival House'. His research work is based on the study of almost all houses of this period, described in the past or preserved down to our day. The Eve of the National Revival Houses are typologized in three basic-groups: with one, two and many rooms. Development in the individual groups on plan-composition and architectural-spatial features traced, as well as on those of interior order. The author's main conclusion is that the Eve of the National Revival National House continued the national building tradition and brought it up to the Bulgarian National Revival Period, when it entered upon the stage of a spontaneous flowering.
