Summary/Abstract: The article draws attention on the semantic, lexical and morphological aspects of the words mercato, piazza e piaţă and on their uses in Italian and Romanian. The analysis has been approached under three directions, the etymological, descriptive and comparative approach. The pragmatic approach has been considered too, as the terms have been analysed in terms of their employment in different levels of language, ranging from common language to language for specific purposes, such as business language.
