Summary/Abstract: The main purpose of this study is to increase the understanding of many issues that are related to strategic decision making in firms, such as the effect of institutionalization on compensation decisions. Institutional theory is considered to offer a reasonable explanation for many organizational actions. However, there is insufficient empirical evidence of whether three types of institutional mechanisms: coercive, mimetic, and normative influence the compensation choices. This analysis should help answer many questions concerning the relation of pay choices with the demands of the institutional environment.
