Summary/Abstract: The article is a proposal to the analysis of human resource management systems in Polish hospitals from the perspective of the diversity of their flexibility. The first part briefly describes the characteristics of flexible human resource management systems, which were opposed to inflexible systems. Then there are described the results of pilot studies conducted in Polish hospitals in terms of the sphere of personnel management flexibility. Finally, the article describes the flexibility dimension of personnel management in Polish hospitals using cultural dichotomy versus inflexible culture. The characteristics of human capital management system in public hospitals point to some important features making hospitals different from other companies. Generally speaking Polish hospitals are characterized by the presence of less flexible human resource systems and organizational cultures compared to the industry. Managers of hospitals do not have knowledge of flexible human resource management systems, and rarely understand the need for their use.
