Summary/Abstract: The present article wishes to emphasize Josef Marlin’s (1824-1849) interest for folklore, not only for the folklore of his own nation but for the one of the other Transylvanian nationalities, too. Besides the support given to the revolutionary cause through his literary writings that militate for the raising of the Romanian people’s national conscience, Marlin not only collects and translates Romanian popular songs but he also illustrates in his stories and unfinished novel Horra, Romanian historical figures from his own perspective. Despite his premature death, at only 25 years old, Marlin had an ample literary activity and proved a profound understanding especially of the Romanian folklore, with which he would concern himself quite a lot during his entire short life.
