Summary/Abstract: The emotional bond between infant and primary caregiver develops in the course of their reciprocal intercations, which are defined by the features of both partners. The child's contribution is confined in the early weeks of life to initiating interactions by means of innate patterns of behaviour such as sucking, crying, clinging and smiling. Henceforth acquiring new, cognitive abilities i.e. intentionality, planning ability, person permanence, a novel quality of relationship between child and mother establishes, so-called clear-cut attachment. Three basic attachment types are distinguished in the caregiver-infant pair: secure, ambivalent and avoidant. Each of the attachement type mentioned above is related to the fixed pattern of attachment behaviours internalized by a child and diverse way of evaluating the self and other people. The attachment type stablished by a child serves as a prototype for the future, intimate relationships in the adulthood. Such a long-enduring consequences of early emotional bonds are validated in the reference to attachment style theory and cognitive schemas theory. Both theories explain permanence of human being's behaviour referring to their past social experience.
