Summary/Abstract: Rehabilitation that has in the recent years been promoted in Slovenia as an important novelty in urban management is in fact a neglected and disregarded urban planning methodology, used in the more developed parts of the World for at least four decades. In Slovenia it was offered in the early 70s, but has ever since been formally and “professionally” prevented as something, that is intended only for a select few listed units. The article describes rehabilitation of built heritage in Slovenia and measures for the rehabilitation of the built environment. It also presents the methodological basis and criteria for ascertaining the suitability of rehabilitation that can be built into the Slovenian urban planning and architectural practice.
