Summary/Abstract: The paper offers a discussion of the security policies, and the ways they are embedded in states and situations of exception. The introduction explains the nexus between security, surveillance and information technologies, and the new forms of accessibility opened up by their potential. The first three sections offer accounts of three influential theories of states of exception developed by Giorgio Agamben, Judith Butler and Michael Hardt and Antonio Negri. The last section sums up the differential traits of the present-day security policies, and analyses the ways those policies can turn out to undermine the security of the populations they allegedly defend.
