Summary/Abstract: In the article the vision of Far Eastern thought, as expressed in haiku poetry, is compared with the ideas of contemporary scientific thought, exploring the world in its dynamism, non-equilibrium, multiplicity and holism. The both see the world in terms of balance between chaos and order. According to Far Eastern thought this balance may be expressed in certain patterns and the essence of the true poetry is to reveal these patterns. The briefest and inmost form of this revealing is haiku. In this aspect it can be compared with the uttermost entity in a fractal or with a piece of hologram, holding the whole world within.
