Summary/Abstract: The author discusses the letters between N. Steinhardt and Virgil Ierunca and Monica Lovinescu, considering that they represent an extremely valuable document to restore the biography, yet to be written, of this essay writer and monach. Starting with the volume published by Humanitas Publishing House in 2000, under the supervision of Monica Manu, the author highlights a few moments and events, some of which decisive for the existence of the essay writer: book readings that enraptured him, or, on the contrary, that disappointed him; the attempts to publish his books; falling for Saint Ana Monastery in Rohia; the dream to become a monk and its accomplishment; his travels abroad to meet his well-known friends, etc.
