Summary/Abstract: The paper investigates the role and nature of qualitative research of library practice and/or possibilities to form library services, and the impact of such research on the library operation as a whole. Now more than ever before, librarians should be open to collaboration and demonstrate an active participation in educational and scientific process. In addition, they should strive to restore the reputation and change the stereotype of librarians. The purpose of this paper is to understand more deeply the problem of the library-librarian-user relationship. It offers no solutions to improve the situation in libraries; it merely raises the question about the need of user-oriented qualitative research concerning the development of library services, showing the results of an experimental questionnaire completed by users.
