Summary/Abstract: The treatise is intended as an unprejudiced reflection of a Věra Sladková triptych titled A Little Man and a Big Woman (Malý muž a velká žena). The aim of the reflection is to find out whether the fact that the triptych was accepted very positively by the critics when first published had in fact only a limited validity or wheter quality artifacts disappear from Czech fiction. The writer‘s experience from the years of the second world war catastrophe that she had spent in North Moravian border area and in Brno served as a main source of material for the triptych. Sládkova‘s novels therefore belong to a large group of literary returns to the Nazi occupation era. Textual analysis, interpretation and comparison of individual versions of the triptych seem to suggest that Sladková’s prosaic works have been unjustly overlooked. The value of the novels lies in Sladková’s ability to view and mediate the traumatic period of World War II in a tragicomical or even grotesque way, and to depict suggestively basic outlines of the mutual conflict between good and evil.
