Summary/Abstract: In 1957. French semiologist Roland Barthes published Mythologies, a collection of essays taken (mostly) from articles in Combat examining the tendency of contemporary social value systems to create modern myths. Although Barthes’ work is considered to be a key antecedent of cultural studies, in my paper I try not only to give a short overview of Barthes’ Mythologies, but to reconsider it as a first attempt to form a political semiology.
