Summary/Abstract: At the very beginning Obralić’s work became the part of one of the to basic types of 20th century painting: that which deals with metaphysics of objects and space. “the mistery of thins and the life of a chaffinch, wrote the great Croatian poet Tin Ujeviæ, thereby expressing the anxiety of medern man thorwn ito the world “of which he knew nothing outside the things tuned to his sensory system and determined in his consciousness” (Werner Haftmann), but it is so little. However, thanks to the tradition perennis, we know that penetration into the Creat Unknown is possible in the blessed moments of inspiration og the artist, and the reception and acceptance of things on the part of an enlihtened individual - a mystic. To ourselves, the common mortals, remains the awareness that such penetration is possible, that it is possible to shed the tight skin of one’s own egotism, and burst into other dimensions, and the handful of jewels that the artist brings back from those spheres, lights us up with other-worldly radiance and increases our longing for the Absolute. No wonder that the well-known Sufi poet from 12th/13th century Rariad ad-Din ‘Allar prayed to the Lord of the Worlds: “With Thy Grace, deliver me from my self”. And Soseki, a Japanese Zen poet (14th century), wrote his poetry with the beautiful certainty of a fulfilled creature: “I heve renounced that small thing called “self”, and have become the infinite world”.
