Story (of) Experiencing: Erasmus, Spaces for Cultural Exchange

Summary/Abstract: While the history and objectives of the most prestigious student mobility programme in Europe have been familiar to the academic community for quite some time, special attention is now being paid to the recently emerged genre of Erasmus writing, comprising texts that range from short and helpful guidelines meant for future Erasmus students to individual accounts of the time spent abroad. This paper aims to analyse such texts in an attempt to outline the most frequent reasons behind each candidate’s decision to take part in this programme, the challenges faced by participants as well as the cultural and emotional aspects of any such experience, and to ultimately define the concept of ‘Erasmus spirit’.
