Summary/Abstract: The project Autodidact, conceived by Liana Pop, and financially supported by a CNCSIS Grant, published nineteen volumes in five languages, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. These materials are also offered on-line, free of charge to all the Romanian and foreign students interested in learning a modern language. Nowadays, the characteristic feature of our world, where English is spoken more and more, is the multiliguism even in francophone countries. At the university, this problem touches local languages, too, languages that influence learning another European language – French in this case –, the teaching strategy being centered on the student whose specific interests and needs get special attention. Thus, local multilinguism helps the students born in a certain county to pronounce the sounds specific to French better than the ones from another region ; but Romanians, due to their Latin mother tongue, have less grammar problems than their Hungarian colleagues. On the other hand, the keys to exercises and the intermediary balance sheets in these handbooks allow anybody not only to work by oneself, but also to evaluate one’s language knowledge after a certain period of study. That is why, these handbooks can be used during the language class and, then, it is the teacher who corrects and evaluates the students.
