Summary/Abstract: The present paper aims at analysing the differences and similarities between the teaching methods and techniques applicable to business English and to business German. Starting with the description of the general characteristics of the professional discourse, the article focuses primarily on reading comprehension and vocabulary tasks, highlighting the most common mistakes and problems encountered in the teaching-learning process. Since the previous knowledge of a language can influence the acquisition of other foreign languages, the positive as well as the negative transfer can both facilitate and hinder the learning process. In the case of business German, it should be emphasised that pre-reading activities together with vocabulary tasks are indispensable tools in the introduction and the consolidation of the business vocabulary.
