The Austrian Freedom Party’s Colonial Discourse in the Context of EU–Enlargement

Summary/Abstract: This study shows how the Austrian Freedom Party’s program represents and constructs itself as opposed to the outside world consisting of immigrants and political opponents. After outlining the major challenges of Austrian history since the end of the Cold War with a special focus on the eastern enlargement of the European Union, it documents that the FPÖ’s perception of itself and the immigrants and political opponents reveals colonial tropes.
