An Attempt to Identify and Understand the Basis of Anti-Semitism

Author(s): Avraham B. Yehoshua
Subject(s): Jewish studies
Published by: Múlt és Jövő

Summary/Abstract: A.B. Yehoshua searches for the distinctive identity of the Jews as reflected in biblical texts and four thousand years of history. Although Smuel Trigano and A.B.Yehoshua set out from different premises and stand on different sides of the political divide, they both conclude that Jewry should not adjust itself to the world, but rather accept its own “alienness”. Influenced by the events of the – hopefully concluded – intifada, both writers see the first signs of possible disaster rather than a continuation, in the form of a series of political events of a conflict stretching back a thousand years. Our publication of A.B. Jehosua’s piece is concurrent with its publication in Hebrew in Alpaim, together with commentaries by 12 leading Israeli thinkers, including historians, philosophers and political scientists.
