Summary/Abstract: Review of the book: Danuta Ulicka, Literaturoznawcze dyskursy możliwe. Studia z dziejów nowoczesnej teorii literatury w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej [‘Discourses Feasible in Literary Studies. Studies on modern literary theory in the Central-Eastern Europe’], Kraków: Universitas, 2007. Ulicka’s book aims at boosting the esteem and restoring the memory of the works of Central- and Eastern-European progenitors of modern literary studies and scholarship. Against an extended Russian thread, the Czechoslovak one is not too clearly present, which is visible e.g. in the author’s terminological problems with the notions of ‘Central Europe’ and ‘Central-Eastern Europe’. Noticeable in Polish studies on the history of literary scholarship is scarce reference made to archival materials, as opposite to analogous Czech or Slovak studies. The book is an important and critical release in Poland; made with a swing and flourish, it gathers some excellent ideas and unfinished thoughts that require being unfolded or brought to a conclusion. Beside this, the book forms part of culturalistic non-classical studies on science.
