Summary/Abstract: The author draws up the portrait of a strange character, Stephanno Zannovich (1751 – 1786), a person very admired in the European high society (in Italy, France, England, Holland, Russia), among nobles, princes, monarchs, where he succeeded as a sentimental and material impostor, under various fake identities, such as the Prince of Albania. Nevertheless, he also acquired reputation as a political visionary and as an author, not without some certain literary merits (being the author of some interesting poems dedicated to women, of savoury filled maxims and aphorisms, which circulated in various milieus). The present study avails of the bibliography related to the period in question, from “A.D. Xenopol” County Library of Arad, in order to sketch a portrait of this interesting character and of his life.
