Summary/Abstract: The article discusses problems of population registration, including the new residence regulation under the Act of September 24, 2010. The population registration belongs to the system of various registers kept by public administration authorities. The population registration consists in registering basic information specified in the Act which confirm the individual’s identity and administrative and legal status. The population registration is based on a duty to register residence as specified in the mandatory law. The above obligation is imposed on all persons staying in the territory of the Republic of Poland, i.e. both Polish citizens and foreigners. The subject matter of the Act refers to a requirement to register permanent or temporal residence, to de-register temporal or permanent residence and to notify of departure for a stay abroad.
