Summary/Abstract: The role of metropolitan areas has gained importance in contemporary socio-economic space of Poland. Metropolis are the centers of economic, social, financial, scientific and cultural dynamics both at regional as well as international range. The goal of this article is to present the level of differentiation of socio-economic development of Cracow Metropolitan Area. In the analysis the author employs a statistical-mathematical method which is based on synthetic indexes characterising the level of development of communes. The research includes 13 indices of social and economic development communes from 2009.
