An business interview as a source of cultural information

Summary/Abstract: The submitted article focuses on the issue of language and culture interrelation. The author's analysis rests on the research conducted by Fons Trompenaars, the Dutch specialist in the sphere of cross-cultural differences in the globai business world, who outlined a number of the dominant values of an American business culture, among which are personai initiative, success-oriented behaviour and egalitarianism. These values are analysed by the author in the light of the language used at job interviews and in practical advice to potential employees. The language analysis of each of the outlined values is accompanied by conclusions of close relation between language and culture. Following Trompenaars, the author suggests that corporate culture experiences much influence on the part of the national culture. The author, therefore, concludes by saying that values typical of American corporate culture are characteristic of the American national culture as a whole.
